So Thanksgiving and Christmas is coming up! Are you excited? I am super excited! Mac and cheese, dressing, sweet potato pie! Then New Year’s oh and then Valentine’s. Then birthdays! Man it is always something! Well if weight loss has been your goal for the longest you may find it harder now that there are so many festivities coming up.How do you get to indulge? Or the better question is is it possible to enjoy the holiday foods and not gain? Yes indeed it is!
First things first, if you already have a healthy lifestyle where you eat right and exercise regularly then you are good to go. If you are smart then you will plan these holidays as your cheat days and be sure to keep up with the habits of exercising and eating clean. Want to indulge on Thanskgiving? Be sure to have an even tighter diet the week of. The day before be sure to workout. If you are an overachiever workout the morning of Thansksgiving because after eating a whole lot of food you probably won’t be up for it. Or you can get your family involved by playing some active Wii games like Just Dance or anything to get moving and to have fun while doing it. If you feel like you really over did it the then the day after throw in some extra exercise.
Now if you have not made the healthy lifestyle changes to lose or maintain weight then yes you SHOULD be worried. The last thing you want is to pack on more lbs than you already want to lose right? So What you should be doing now since you have about 6 days left is to weigh in, record everything you eat, and be very careful to eat clean as possible. Here are some tips to make some fast changes before Thanskgiving
- Cut out all sugary drinks and sodas and replace them with water.
- Don’t eat any fried foods
- Avoid chips, cookies, and packaged foods with lots of sugar and high sodium
- Drink plenty of water
- Add two healthy snacks between meals ( an apple and a banana are great for digestion)
- Eat breakfast!
- Don’t eat any fast food. If you must have it stay away from fried, greasy foods and stick to healthier options like salads, grilled chicken, and avoid cheesy foods and foods drenched in sauces.
- Exercise for at least 30 minutes 3 times before Thanksgiving
When Thanksgiving gets here don’t go all day without eating because you know you will eat a lot. Eat a light breakfast and a snack before eating Thanksgiving meal. Don’t eat until you are tired and can’t move. Not a good feeling. Eat just enough and let it digest then go back for seconds later if you wish.
Be sure to avoid taking home leftovers like cakes and pies and when you do eat your leftovers watch your portions well.
If you weighed yourself today or tomorrow be sure to do the same day next week. Do NOT weight yourself on Thanksgiving. I REPEAT DO NOT WEIGH YOUR SELF ON THANKSGIVING.
